Vacancies for mission minded church leaders and pioneers.

Opportunities exist within Rural Ministries' growing partnership for gifted people to serve as pastors and church planters. Undoubtedly the challenges are considerable but the spiritual resources available are greater.

Rural church leaders come from a variety of backgrounds and possess different dominant gifts. Each requires faith, perseverance and the ability to establish relationships with a range of people. You will need to be convinced that as the Bible is opened, God is at work. Any Pastor must seek to minister to those in the church while being deeply concerned for those outside. Immersing yourself in the local community and finding ways to serve are essential.

Our partner churches are in different locations with widely differing contexts for ministry. As well as some full-time positions, other churches are seeking part-time help. These churches would be ideal for those prepared for some "tent-making" work or have other financial support. A church property may be available. Some Pastors already in ministry may find a change to working in a rural context very fulfilling. There is a different pace of life and evidence that one spiritually alive church may impact a whole area. We would also like to establish some training positions where someone may work with the help of a more experienced local pastor.

If you consider God may be calling and preparing you to face the challenges of rural ministry, then please contact us.

+ Part-time Pastor
  Location: Buckinghamshire

This church is based in a small pretty, historic village in north Buckinghamshire with a population of 1,303. The village was recorded in the Domesday survey in the 11th Century and has a village shop, post office, two public houses and a primary school. The other church in the village is the Parish church, with whom they have a good relationship.

The church has a membership of 20 adults with a regular Sunday morning attendance of around 12 adults and 7 children. The church also hosts a mid-week Bible study and prayer meeting. The fellowship is active in the life of the village, being involved in the Village Hall Committee, Old Peoples Welfare, the Parish Council. The church also practically supports the local Toddler Group, coffee mornings for parents, and partners with the Parish Church to run a weekly after school club. The church is also a distribution point for the local Foodbank.

The church vision is to be a brighter and stronger light for Christ in the village; to continue to build on the partnerships that they already have and create new ones when the opportunities present themselves. They are aware that they need to be flexible to adapt to the challenges of modern day society and reach out more effectively to their community.

They are seeking a Pastor who is comfortable in a small community, and can lead them spiritually, strengthening and encouraging them to go out and reach others. There are sufficient finances to support a part-time position of approx. £15k per annum. Accommodation is not provided.

An application form can be requested via email from office@ruralministries.org.uk or can be downloaded from the link at the top of this page.

+ Part-time Pastor
  Location: Hampshire

This independent evangelical church meets on the edge of a post-war housing estate outside Southampton, with a population of approximately 10,000, nevertheless it retains a semi-rural aspect in its outlying parts to the north and south. The church has been in existence for the last 70 years and has a building in good working condition, including side hall and anterooms and a minister’s office. The church runs a number of successful outreach weekly events, including TOP (Time for Older People), Good News Group which is a group for adults with learning difficulties (linked to Liveability) and a thriving Toddlers. The church also has good links to the both local schools through ‘Open The Book.’

The church has a good gospel heart, however the age and size of the congregation does somewhat limit what they can physically do, even though their vision remains strong for the local community. They are seeking a leader with a strong pastoral heart to help them develop the ongoing gospel vision and outwork their mission calling to the local community, as well as build up the congregation both spiritually and numerically. Housing needs and modest stipend for three days per week to be discussed with the right candidate.
